November 27–29, 2001 — When the days go too quickly

On Tuesday, things more or less returned to normal. I was back in front of computer, with my days ending before I’d managed to get much of anything done.

It’s strange: Since finishing the new message board, I’ve actually been seriously considering stopping this. For a long time it’s just been something that I did without thinking about, so it was odd to even think about turning everything off and getting back to living life on my own. I don’t think I’ve the nerve to just stop any time soon, but it seems less unthinkable than it used to. I convinced myself that I would get a lot more done without this distraction, but I really don’t know what else I would do with my time...

I started reading The Second Angel, a book by Philip Kerr that my father had mailed to me with some of my birthday gifts. For the next few days after starting it, I went back and forth from writing, coding, and reading. If not for the fact that I’m not making any money from living like this, it’s something that I could really get used to.

I woke up on Wednesday and found that I wouldn’t be making it to Buffalo for Saves The Day after all. Having been given my afternoon back, I put together some antigreg button sets complete with packaging.

In order to make the packaging, I needed to buy some photo paper because I didn’t want to use matte card stock. On my way downtown, I stopped and checked my post office box. A girl in Toronto had mailed me a letter in the form of a Chanukah card.

Between making pins and reading Chanukah cards, I guess it was a pretty decent day.

On Thursday, I made more buttons and did a decent amount of work on this site. The features section is finally back, and the KrazyFest Journal is now online. I submitted my site into the SXSW Web site competition, too. The deadline is December 1, so I don’t know if I’m entering too late in the game to have much of a chance at nomination, but I figured it was worth a go. They’ve a personal/online journal category, so I guess there’s at least a vague chance of things working out.

My sleep habits have been awful lately. I’m sleeping from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm again, when I’d much prefer to be asleep from 2:00 am to 10:00 am.

Maybe once I get a job it’ll be better. (If I ever get a job, anyway.) Andrew says that it’s a sure thing and that the interview (that I still haven’t been called about) at Blockbuster is just a formality. I guess we’ll see. Still no word from Chapters.

I was offered some database work in Ottawa over the holidays, but I don’t think I’ll be going back to Ottawa, so it’s sort of moot. And I don’t think there would be enough hours to really justify the trip home. I’d probably only make a bit more out than the cost of the bus ticket; I can’t see it being more than a day’s work. So I guess retail remains the only option.

My sister’s visiting on Saturday, so I really ought to start cleaning my room. I think I should probably get as little sleep as possible on Friday night, too — I doubt she’ll be all that keen on the idea of me being awake in front of the computer until 6:00 am while she’s trying to sleep.

I think I’m going to put the new pins and pin sets in the sellout section and then try to get away from the computer for a few hours. Get my room sparkling and all that. Ha.
