November 3–5, 2001 — Not remembering to plug the phone back in

I was going to write this on Sunday night. Then I went to change the filter in our water purifier and I managed to cut up the index finger on my left hand. Typing wasn’t the most pleasant experience after that. And then on Monday night I had the worst headache that I’ve had in a long time and I felt like I was going to throw up.

So those are my excuses. I’m not really complaining — it does us some good to be attacked by Brita filters every now and again and to have the occasional headache, I figure — but I’m trying my very best to not wait three days between journal anymore, so I feel the need to make excuses.

Anyway. The weekend. I barely left the house at all, really. The person who was supposed to call me on Friday finally called on Sunday night, but a different person who was supposed to call on Saturday never did, so I’m still not doing so well with the phone. And no one ever seems to be home when I call them.

The phone call on Sunday night was an interesting one. I’m starting to become extremely disillusioned with major labels and the music business in general.

I talked to my parents on Sunday, too. They’re going to mail me the last two Harry Potter books. I have a feeling this weekend is going to be a write-off if they arrive before then. But it’s for the best, really.

On Monday, I went to buy Bane tickets, the new Bane and Dismemberment Plan CDs, and to see Monsters, Inc.. The three-dollar matinees for students (Monday through Thursday) are back at the main downtown theater, so I can go to movies again. It’ll just be a matter of convincing myself to wait until the Monday after the Harry Potter movie is released to see it.

Monsters, Inc. was fun enough. If I’d gone just to see the new Star Wars trailer, I’d’ve left disappointed, though. It’s just 45 seconds of heavy breathing and 2–second clips from the movie without audio (except for one — just one — light saber strike at the end). Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be doing my best to see the movie the night it’s released, but it’s hard to get anywhere near as excited as I did for the first one.

I’m liking the new Bane CD quite a bit, but the new Dismemberment Plan is proving a bit more difficult to get into. Maybe it will just take a few more listens. The only song that is an immediate stand-out is “Timebomb,” a song they played live when they last played in Toronto. A very good song, that.

Other than that, not much has changed. We finally received the barcode that we’re using on the Cuff The Duke CD today, so we should finally be able to send that project to the printers once and for all. I’m still finishing up their Web site and working on a bunch of other Web site projects at the same time. And trying to get the final antigreg message board online. And working on this silly zine of mine that will never be finished at the rate I’m going.

So I’ve plenty to do, in any case.

And I’m getting really sick of starting my day as the sun is setting. I’ve got to cut this shit out.
