October 24, 2001 — Washing dishes at midnight

So it turns out that my sleep schedule is still a bit messed up. My initial plan to start going to sleep at 1:00 am or so was thwarted by the fact that the only person I really talk to online anymore doesn't usually get online until midnight and often stays awake until 5:00 am. So I'm still waking up at noon. But give me time, I'll fix myself.

Tonight, though, I had no one to talk to and I couldn't sleep. But the dishes needed doing. So my plans for the evening kind of wrote themselves.

Before then, though, I had a reasonably productive day.

I woke up at around noon again and went downtown in slight violation of TTC bylaws.

On my way, I stopped at the post office and mailed all of my letters and packages. I've been asking every week since I moved to Toronto if there are any small mailboxes available for rent, and they've always said no. There was absolutely no hope in my voice when I repeated my question this afternoon for the eighth of ninth time this month.

And there was finally an open mailbox. You are encouraged to write me letters at:

I was also impressed by the ridiculous amount of money that changed hands over the course of my forty minutes at the post office. People must've purchased at least $3000 worth of money orders in the time that I was there. I wonder if people ever hold up post offices...

Anyway, after my adventure at the post office, I went downtown and bought the new Silver Mount Zion album. They've changed their name to The Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band; "Born Into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward" is the new album, and it was released as a rather pretty-looking double 10". I also bought the new Fugazi 7" because I'm a sucker for clear vinyl. I was hoping to get the new Hey Mercedes and the new Dismemberment Plan, but they didn't have either.

I got stared down entering the subway system on my way home. I was actually quite worried since if they'd asked to take a look at my bus pass, they'd've found that there was an excellent and quite legitimate reason for them to be staring me down. But they let me go and I'm a happier person for it.

I put on the Silver Mount Zion record as soon as I got home. Reading the insert was rather inspirational. I put the inspiration to bad use and rewrote all of the static pages on antigreg while listening to the record. The about section is different and the cast page has been updated (but still no pictures, don't worry) and pretty much every page was edited a bit. The tone of some things just didn't feel quite right. But it's a little better now.

Then I took a break and went to the grocery store. After dinner I did more laundry and read more of The Plague. And that pretty much brings us to now.

Andrew looked unbelievably exhausted today. It reminded me of many of the reasons that I was ecstatic to be finished (in the "Yeah! Fuck that shit!" sense of the word, as opposed to the "Receiving a diploma and graduating" sense) with school. It's going to be difficult convincing myself to go back.

In other news, I'm still a horrible person and humanity will be better off if I boycott attempts at relationships as well as the Internet.

And with that, I'm going to sleep, I think.
