July 31-august 19, 2001 — An interlude regarding unplanned vacations

It's depressing to think that the best sunsets I've seen in the last three years have all been viewed from the office where I work. In Richmond, the trees surrounding my house combined with my reluctance to leave my room make it difficult to really watch the sun go down. In Toronto... Well, let's just say that there was a building or two impeding my view. But downtown Ottawa isn't as built up as downtown Toronto, and when you're on the fifth floor of an office building, the view isn't so bad so long as you avert your eyes from the 400-series highway just below the skyline. The clouds were a very unnatural pink colour at dusk today.

It feels sort of like the end of an era. I haven't been keeping antigreg up to code lately, and sometimes it feels like it has died on me. I hadn't meant to follow the example of all those European types who take the entire month of August off, but it looks like I pretty much have anyway.

A lot of things have happened since KrazyFest (and I still haven't even finished writing about that). It's overwhelming to think about catching up. (Thankfully, I've been keeping notes.)

But I will catch up.

Meanwhile, some might be curious as to where I'm living in the fall. At the end of July, it became apparent that Jeff, Amy, Andrew, Johnston, and I wouldn't be able to find a landlord willing to rent a house for us. Alternatives were investigated, mostly to no avail. I had given up and had actually started to clean up my room in Richmond in preparation for a prolonged stay. But then Johnston and Andrew came through with a place for the three of us to live, so it looks like I'm back in Toronto.

I'll be moving on the weekend of September 1, I think. As soon as is humanly possible, I will get high-speed Internet working and I will get antigregtv running twenty-four hours a day again. And I will catch up on my journals. Actually, everything's going to be updated without exception -- I've already redesigned most of the site and just have to implement it. By mid-September, I hope to be back to posting daily journals, and by the end of September, I hope to be ready to launch a much-improved version of this site.

For now, if you've emailed me, I almost certainly owe you a reply unless you emailed me with an extremely simple yes or no question -- I'm almost a month behind on emails, too. I'll try to catch up on them this week. And for now, there won't be any new journals. Not until I'm in Toronto. I just don't have the time for it. I'm still at work now and will be sleeping under my desk again tonight in an effort to get everything that I need to finish finished before I leave for Toronto in a couple of weeks. Last week I slept more nights at work than I did at home. I can't wait until I'm finished with this forever...

So that's that. Sorry for disappearing like this. I'll be back (and possibly better than ever) in September. And hopefully a bit less burnt out, too. Until then, though, there are hundreds of older journal entries that you could be reading, so get on that.

Take care.
