May 29-june 3, 2001 — In a different world
Let's see then. When I last wrote about work, I'd written on the Friday of the week of May 21 to say that I'd been able to get away from the endlessly tedious project that I had been working on since I'd started work for the summer. First thing Monday morning of the following week, I learned that I had been returned to said endlessly tedious project. Two days of staring at my computer screen in a coma followed. Then, on Wednesday, I received word that the project had been scrapped half an hour before I left for home.
And when I say scrapped, I do mean scrapped. It looks like they're going to be starting from scratch with a new target launch date of September 1, which means that I can dedicate my time to more interesting work until at least late-July. I gave myself the rest of the day off. And since the person in charge of the project I'm currently working on encourages me to work from home, I stayed at home on Thursday. Then I became extremely sick. So I stayed home Friday, too.
I spent the weekend finishing the Bran Van 3000 site. Is it done? Not really. Is it online? But of course. It's better than it was before, I think, and it's a lot easier to make changes now that Cascading Style Sheets are being used (without a single font tag anywhere on the site). Also, the page templates are now run through Server-Side Includes, so I can change every page on the site simply by changing a single header or footer file. (Those of you who complained about talk of obscure bands, take note: it can get much, much worse.)
So yes. I've barely left the house since Wednesday, but much has been accomplished. I've some other sites that need attention now that I'm more on maintenance mode for the BV3 site, but I'm going to do my best to keep up with my journals again. I know it has been said before, but now that I've almost got things set up so that I can post journals at work, and now that I've no major projects on the horizon, it should be a lot easier.
In other news, Johnston emailed me to inform me that a seat has opened up for the drive to KrazyFest. I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to go just yet, but I'd be surprised if I weren't able to go. And with a day of metal bands in the middle of the festival, I'll have a day to try to find Internet access. Hopefully I won't be too twitchy from Internet withdrawal come the emo-for-lack-of-a-better-word-filled day on Sunday.
While typing that last paragraph, I decided that I'd like to see where Kentucky is on a map. Then I realized that I wasn't sure if Kentucky was a city or a state. It turns out KrazyFest is in Lousville, Kentucky, and that it is in fact a US state. Who'd've thunk it. While zooming out, I became frustrated with my lack of knowledge regarding US geography ("Cincinnati? How the hell am I supposed to know where that is with respect to Canada?"), so I zoomed out until I could see Ontario. I've concluded that it is indeed very far away.
With insight like that, I can see why you're still reading these.
I think that's about it for now. Maybe I'll post from work tomorrow. Probably not, but maybe.
I'm very tired for 8:30 pm and it scares me.
