March 5, 2001 — I figured you'd be here
While I was waiting for a Web page to load prior to writing this journal entry, I found a plastic fork on my desk and was playing with it. While I was absentmindedly bending its tines back, two snapped and pieces of the fork exploded off and hit me in the face. It hurt.
Normally I would blame the fork manufacturer in question, but I would have a hard time explaining the structural damage that had occurred prior to pieces exploding off and hitting me in the face. This structural damage was caused by my decision to spend ten minutes or so forcing the points on a staple remover through the fork just prior to it taking its revenge upon my face. So I might not have much of a case. And besides, I've been using a fork of the same brand to prop up my keyboard for a solid five or six months, so this just balances things out. A stable keyboard is just as important to me as a face undamaged by fork debris, when it all comes down to it.
Moving on, then: today was bleak and snow-filled. It was snowing when I woke up this morning and has only recently stopped. Johnston was annoyed with my constant bitching about the weather, arguing that I seemed like the type to love snow, as it made for starker landscapes. I was quick to explain that starkness comes after dry feet in my list of priorities. That I've been too stupid to own or wear proper winter footgear in at least two or three years might have something to do with this.
The only time that I really had to leave the house and walk more than a block or two today was to biology class, so it could have been worse. And biology was actually pretty interesting; the new lecturers are infinitely better than the one who we had to sit through for the second half of ecology. There were sex jokes aplenty in the section on male-male competition, and it was fun to picture Jeff trying to sit through a lecture on the optimal duration of copulation per mate in flies without yelling things out. Good times.
I have a physics lab to prepare for tomorrow and a formal lab report to write. But I don't plan on starting until tomorrow since I figure I could use the added stress. Combined with my calculus midterm on Thursday, this week is far too school-oriented for my liking. At least I managed to finish all the antigreg updates that I needed to do before my three days of doing work actually related to university set in.
And since we're on the topic... Pretty much every page on antigreg has now been updated. The "about" section had more about the site and about me, the journal section has lots more background information, the features section now links to three features, the contact page has been updated, and the links section is a more accurate look at the few places where I spend my time online. Fun fun fun.
Speaking of features, though: "I'll ride a motorbike" (or "The Bill Cosby Song"), a song that I wrote with Pat, is now online and all set for you to download. You know you want to.
My alarm's set for less than eight hours from now, so I'm going to try to get at least a little bit rested before my day of physics hell begins. Here's to hoping that your day goes better than mine will.
