October 31-november 1, 2000 — And I could win over acting cool

This will be the second consecutive superficial update on my life. Those two vaguely introspective entries a few days back really tired me out, I guess.

So anyways. Some of you may remember my panicked comments about having failed a physics test and whatnot a week or so ago. Nathan commented that I'd done this before in high school and I'd always end up with a really good mark despite having thought I'd failed. Andrew said maybe I'd have to actually start working in university. Nathan seems to have won this round. Despite not having attended the lectures or having done any practice problems, the only mistakes I made were in confusing micrograms with nanograms. Fucking metric system.

But all in all I've nothing to complain about, as far as life in general is concerned. Things are kind of working out. Ian from Grand Royal emailed me to let me know a virtual server was being setup for branvan3000.com, which means the site ought to be up fairly soon. It also means I should be able to get greg@branvan3000.com as an email address, which'll certainly make my life complete.

Speaking of Grand Royal, Johnston and I stayed up last night to watch At The Drive-In on Conan O'Brien. Which was well worth the effort of staying awake. I was impressed that they could manage to get that much energy together for a single song; I always worry with bands like At The Drive-In that their show won't translate well when they're held to five minutes, but they seemed to pull it off alright. Plenty of the jumping from bass drums and mic-tossing that we've grown to love. Unfortunately, it's been a bit difficult to find a copy of the song in MP3 form on Napster since "At," "The," and "-In" are ignored by the Napster search engine. So I can only find the Deftones playing "Be Quiet and Drive" on Conan O'Brien. How I dream of VCR ownership...

Meanwhile, there are a few gourds that Johnston's mom sent back to Toronto with him at Thanksgiving now sitting outside our door. We've got the spirit.

I've got a chemistry lab to prepare for. Dreams of phthalic acid will no doubt be dancing in my head throughout the night. How I love life sciences.
