August 30, 2000 — Completion
The new anti-greg journal section is finally done. And I think it's an improvement. Or at least I desperately hope so, for the sake of the hours that went into it.
Right now, the main listing page looks kind of bad because there aren't enough entries, but that problem will solve itself in a couple of weeks.
And then there's the world outside of HTML design and of modifying PERL scripts; and what a world! Riiight...
I slept in reasonably late, and it was past the time I'd promised to call Matt to talk about the BV3 drawings by the time I woke up. Luckily, I got the answering machine, so I didn't look too useless. And by the time he called back, I was mostly ready to leave, so it worked out perfectly.
I found the magazine with the photos that James DiSalvio was so impressed with to take to show to Matt, and then after a safe drive to Greely, I promptly drove straight past the McCracken household. A quick U-turn later, I spotted the telltale basketball net and was reasonably sure that I was at the right house.
As it turns out, it was, in fact, the right house. Please hold your applause. After showing Matt the pictures and talking a bit about the site, Dave and Johnston stopped by and I was looked upon with considerable amounts of scorn for having never heard any songs by The Get Up Kids or Ire. And so I was played a few songs by both bands, and I realized at 4:19PM that I should've left at 4:00PM to be home on time.
A frantic drive home ensued, with me driving 130 km/hour and passing cars left and right. (I'd like to add, at this point, that it was never speed so much as bad driving conditions that lead to my... incidents... while behind the wheel. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.) As I was getting close to Richmond, I decided I likely wouldn't be too late and chose not to pass the two cars in front of me. And imagine my surprise when, at the turn to Richmond, I found that there was a police motorcycle in between the two cars! How it is that I've never been pulled over by a member of the law-enforcement community during the whole of my driving career is beyond me.
After this, my evening went downhill. I went rollerblading and for a bike ride, hoping to get rid of some energy, and then I started work on my new journal section, which I've just finished now. While I was out rollerblading, the rednecks from across the street spoke to me, which was more than a little bit terrifying. I avoided eye contact and managed to survive the ordeal.
And now it's 3:00AM, someone just paged me (although I don't really have the energy to figure out who or to return their call; I'll assume it's not too important), and I'm about ready to get some sleep.
