July 30, 2000 — My sister the cowgirl

For some reason today's journal title strikes me as a children's book waiting to be written. But I'm stupid that way, after all.

The compressed version of today is as follows: I went to IKEA and picked out the computer desk that I will need to buy once I clean my room; I rented "The Ninth Gate" and waste my afternoon away watching it; I did a little work on anti-greg; I went for a bike ride; I picked up my sister at the Kanata AMC theatre place.

Still no updates on the scholarship situation. I should know by tomorrow.

Now, as for the title: my sister, being slightly odd, is trying to pick up a waiter who works at Jack Astor's out in Kanta. So today she went with her friend, and they both dressed like skanks sort of as a joke. My sister wore a pink cowboy hat and eighties-ish jeans with rivets in them. It was a little bit odd. They have the waiters there convinced that they're in their twenties and that they'd like to apply for jobs. That I barely pass for eighteen while my sixteen-year-old sister can pass for twenty is a bit troubling.

Meanwhile, I'm planning to work a lot of hours next week and might even get to do some overnight shifts. Won't that be delightful? I'm hopefully going to be able to quit my job in two more weeks, so I don't have to last too much longer... August 10th I get my braces off, August 11th I quit my job; it'll be quite a week. And until then I get to take it one carpal tunnel syndrome-filled day at a time.
