July 4, 2000 — Ninja Tutles outfits and Jem wigs

My sister's having an eighties party downstairs. I think it's a little half-assed, as when I first heard about it, I was expecting Ninja Turtles outifts and Jem (Gem?) wigs. Instead, they're sitting around eating chips and watching The Never-Ending Story. Don't get me wrong, I've no beef with Never-Ending Story, but I think more could've been done. Actually, right now I can hear them watching the video for The Grad Song, so they've already fallen off the eighties boat. I'd lend them my Tiffany and Men Without Hats records if it didn't mean lending out my turntables as well...

This is going to be a short one. My day: worked; finally made it to the Rideau Centre and back twice in one lunch hour; got screwed around by the IT department; left work; bought the new Sunny Day Real Estate album; decided that if the girl at HMV asked me to abandon my family and move to Ohio to steal cars with her for a living, I'd do it; went home; went with my dad to see Shaft (and to avoid the eighties party); swallowed two bugs on my bike ride; felt guilty about aforementioned bugs; spent an hour cleaning my poor, infected ears; and that brings us to now.

Today just went by on auto-pilot. I find that after the first week of work, the summer becomes a blur. My body stops resisting the terror of being at a desk for 7.5 hours a day and just turns off my brain for extended periods of time to make time go faster. Only 7.8 more weeks. And my braces are gone early in August, which can't hurt either. If I survive this summer, life ought to make sense again.
