June 28, 2000 — In search of kid socks
All my reasons for hating Richmond were summed up in a single image this evening: I was out for a bike ride and I saw a kid, probably around 15 years old, using a yellow plastic guard that had once been placed over the wires holding up a telephone pole to hit another of these plastic guards, which was still attached to a telephone pole. He'd just walk around holding the one he'd removed above his head, and every once in awhile take a run at the one still attached and hit it. It was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen.
I just got back from picking up my sister from work; I left a bit early in search of kid socks, and came home disappointed. I checked Walmart, Zellers, and Canadian Tire (why not, right?) to no avail. I'm going to check Biway and Giant Tiger tomorrow; you'd think there'd be more demand for something like this.
Work was... work. Nothing interesting happened. The doctor I've been trying to call for two days about a project that I've been assigned that he has to provide me with the data for was out of the office all day and, his secretary tells me, will be in a meeting all day tomorrow. I feel as though I'm being avoided.
I finally found an excellent patch of smooth pavement to go rollerblading on at lunch: it runs on the east side of the Rideau Canal from Isabella Street, where I work, to the Rideau Centre. Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'm going to go there and back twice. I have the hardest time sitting down all day as it is, and if I didn't burn off some energy at lunch, I don't think I'd make it.
I'd thought of lots of funny things to write in my journal today, but I'm tired already and I forget them all. Sorry.
