June 26, 2000 — Nothing ever works out as planned
I'm sitting at work in my inline skates, and I realize that by the time I finally get home, I won't have the energy to do this journal, so I'm doing it now.
Today was my first day of work for the summer. I was up at quarter passed five, and after the epic daily bus ride and a quick bagel, I was ready for my seven-point-five hours of work.
But alas, nothing ever works out as planned.
It seems all my passwords at work have been messed up, one way or another. Even know, approaching 7:00PM, I can't access anything and am logged in to one of my co-worker's logins. It hasn't been much fun.
So after setting up computers for me to use over the summer using parts scavanged from across the office and realizing I couldn't use them until IT fixed my passwords, I spent the morning trying to find ways to work around these problems and actually get something done, since I had work that needed to be finished before I left tonight. I finally found a way around my problems shortly after lunch, and was immediately plunged into a couple of hours of meetings.
To make a long story short, I've still got plenty of work left to do and I won't be home until 9:30PM. Hurah.
I did get to go inline skating along the canal though. It was very nice, and is quickly transforming into a job perk. During a break, I went out and bought a pair of shorts, which makes this "going outside" business that much easier. I'm definitely going to end up injuring myself before the end of the summer though, since I'm going out without brakes or safety equipment. A brilliant way to do it, no doubt.
I've only one hour to finish work before I'll end up being late to meet up with my parents so they can drive me home, so I'd better get back to it. This is the life.
