May 17, 2000 — My visit to the original Pita Pit (and some other minor details)
Several important things happened today. First, and most relevant to anyone reading this, is the decision that I'm becoming less interested in my experiment into whether or not humanity is full of superficial bastards, due to discussions last night determined this to be the case anyways, combined with the fact that I'm getting rather bored (as I'm sure you are as well) of the daily tallies discussing the remarkable fact that people periodically make the odd decision to talk to me and not to people with bad clothes or bad facial hair.
Next, and most relevant to my life, is the religious experience that happened over lunch as I left campus (one rule broken for the day; now I just have to drink, smoke drugs, and have a girl in my room to finish off the list) to go downtown for lunch. Following typical Greg habits, I went to the Pita Pit. But this wasn't just any Pita Pit. It turns out that it was the first ever! The originator of the franchise! I almost wet my pants. I was planning on doing a comparison of this to travelling to Makkah, but I suspect that this would offend people left and right, and lord knows I've never offended anyone before. Riiight...
Finally, in my biomedical ethics class, I was getting rather frustrated with the nonsensical paths in which a discussion would take and the uninformed examples and the bad analogies. But the talk of eugenics and genetic screening reminded me of my thoughts a couple months ago that it would be best to never have children as it would be the cruelest thing I could possibly do to force someone to grow up in a world I hate as much as this. Thinking about this again, I'm thinking that it's the way to go. I couldn't justify wasting more of the world's resources to sit another person similar to me on the planet. There are too many people like me already.
Seriously though, I don't understand some of the claims being made about genetic engineering made in the class. Jumps from screening for Down Syndrome to eugenics performed by Hitler are made without blinking an eye. The videos are good and the legal aspects are interesting, but I just want to implode halfway through the class.
It doesn't seem that anyone's read these yet. My only criteria for saying this, however, is the theory that if people do read them, they'll post a reply. And this is more than likely faulty logic. But whatever. I'd be pretty happy if they weren't read until the site was better designed anyways. I just want to get a feel for knowing that my journal is online and that anyone in the world can read it. So far it's not all that difficult to deal with.
I'm still working on my valedictorian speech. It's going to be tremendously entertaining, I think. I doubt very much that I have a chance of winning, but it'll be worth it just to get a few things off my chest and to have an excuse to make a scene again. I'd better at least have qualified...
