The albatross did follow...
On April 19, 2003, I left on a three-week tour with Cuff The Duke. They were driving to Victoria and back, playing 18 shows along the way. I convinced them that it would be useful to have me along to sell merch — CDs, t-shirts and pins — and to “road manage.”
I brought along three empty notebooks. Two were used to keep track of the money we were spending and (sometimes) earning, and the third was my journal. By the end of the tour I’d filled over thirty pages of my notebook with single-spaced printing. It took six weeks for me to work up the energy to type out the 12 434 words I’d written by hand and to edit them into to the somewhat less tedious account that follows:
April 18–21, 2003 — I want to go back to sleep
April 22–25, 2003 — Maybe we’ll just stay here
April 26–27, 2003 — Through the breakdowns
April 27–30, 2003 — Monuments and steeples
May 1–3, 2003 — Doing nothing and not making anything
May 4–6, 2003 — My colour TV
May 7–11, 2003 — Between the lines in the road
If you are looking for a briefer description of the trip’s events, I’ve also posted Jeff’s tour journal and all of the pictures I took along the way.
